You are purchasing high quality sheet music PDF files suitable for printing or viewing on digital devices. This is the piano transcription of the first movement of the Clarinet Concerto. The score shows Clarinet in A, a marking which cannot conveniently be altered. Assume that the solo part is to be played on either A or B flat instrument, to suit. The second movement was originally conceived for bass clarinet in B flat: the rather daft idea being that the soloist would use three different clarinets in performance. Much more convenient to performon one!
Full score and orchestral parts may be hired directly from the composer.

The Concerto was inspired by a particularly splendid day out in Boulogne-sur-Mer, Northern France, in the company of the most excellent of friends. It involved a splendid lunch with a seafood salad of almost Rabelaisian proportions, a very moreish dry white wine and was followed by a walk on the beach where the talk was almost exclusively of what clarinets (and clarinettists) can and cannot do. All three movements were devised almost simultaneously - only the "filling out" with notes took a little time.
