This is in the Italian style and featuring a typical memorable singable melody that hopefully sticks in everybody’s mind.
It is a double ciaccona ie 8 bars long rather than the typical 4 hence the title.
An Organ like opening to show off the lovely chord progression that everybody should identify with as they have heard the chord sequences millions of times over their life.
The 2 soloists are introduced one by one then together trading licks before slipping in to unison 3rds.
The bridge gives the soloists a chance to trade their rippling semiquaver triplets against the string ensembles syncopated triplet accompaniment.
The main theme returns again in triplets in 6ths this time with the violinists heave a huge sigh of relief when they are relieved of their double stops and finally get to rip out those semiquaver triplets too with the cellist and harpsichord getting in on the act too.
The piece ends with the theme in it’s original rhythm along with the original organ like accompaniment.
Feel free to ornament as much as you like.
