The idea for "Christmas Eve" came out of one of my Flute Choir's practices. Our piccolo (that's right, the instrument, not the player) decided to play in G minor instead of G major, but keeping the same pitches. And then…the idea was there. Afterwards, I quickly went home and sped through this score.
The introduction should be played very lightly. All staccato notes should be played EXTREMELY lightly. The falling notes are reminiscent of snow falling. Be certain that when both melodies play together near the end that both melodies are heard. They can be drowned out by the harmony and lower lines.
