This hymn-tune first appeared in François de la Feillée's "Méthode pour apprendre les règles du plain-chant", 1782. It has been used for the words "Father, we bless thee, now the night is over" since the early 1900s. More recently it has been set to the words "Christ is the world's light" by Frederick Pratt Green.
