This composition for brass septet (2 tpt., 2 hrn, 2 tbn, tba) is based on a medieval Christmas hymn which dates from the late 14th Century and probably had its origins in Germany. Personent Hodie was first published in the Finnish song book Piae Cantiones in 1582. The Latin text has had many English translations over the centuries, but the one most commonly heard today is On This Day Earth Shall Ring by Jane M. Joseph (1894–1929). Grade 4 - Duration 2:40
