Originally a 16th Century Dutch folk song, this melody was
adapted as a hymn tune in 1877 by Viennese composer and
musicologist Eduard Kremser (1838-1914), whose surname
provides the tune's title. The tune is by far best known for the
Thanksgiving hymn "We Gather Together." Other somewhat
less popular hymns that use this tune are "We Praise Thee,
O God Our Redeemer" and another Thanksgiving hymn "In
Our Day of Thanksgiving."
