Claude Debussy (1862-1918) was a French composer and pianist. He was experimental in his compositional techniques, favouring dissonance, chromaticism, and the use of non-traditional scales. This lively piece, with its contrasting middle section, provides an opportunity to practise moving between lower and upper register playing. It utilises double stopping and string harmonics to create a full and lustrous adaptation of this piano piece for the solo bassist.
