The words of the national song were written and put to music by Leila Ross-Shier. An organist in the Presbyterian Church, she had a great love and talent for music. “Beloved Isle Cayman” was composed in 1930 and she sang it for years accompanying herself on the guitar before it was officially adopted as the national song. (As a colony of the United Kingdom, “God Save the Queen” is the official national anthem of the Cayman Islands.)
Cayman’s national song, "Beloved Isle Cayman", was written by the late Mrs. Leila Ross Shier in 1930. Regarded as the unofficial national song for many years, it became the official national song when the Cayman Islands Coat of Arms, Flag and National Song Law was passed in 1993.
