This work was transcribed from Professor Seal’s original part books dating from the 1860s. Andrew Seal (originally Andreas Seigel) was Brisbane’s first professional bandmaster and widely acknowledged as the father of band music in Queensland. This work was played (in a version for four instruments) at the first professional band concert in Brisbane in 1857.

I used these original parts to recreate the original concert in a project for the State Library of Queensland. The full story is in the John Oxley Library blog. http://blogs.slq.qld.gov.au/jol/2013/03/12/recreating-the-brisbane-band-of-1857/
