The symphonic interplay of the work, placed between the eighth and the ninth scene, is one of the most popular pieces of Cavalleria Rusticana. Thanks to its orchestral character, entirely based on the use of the strings, it has also had much luck outside the opera repertoire. In the film industry it was the background of one of the most famous scenes in the history of cinema, the one in the movie The Godfather - Part III. It was also used in the headlines of Martin Scorsese's film, "The Tortured Bull," as the leading theme of Philippe de Broca's Lagardère Rider and the "Strange Hallucinations" of the popular American series Ally McBeal [2] The central theme was reworked for a dance song titled "Will be one of the Datura", which was taken over by Vasco Rossi in the Intro of the live 2007, and is present in Mascagni's song by Andrea Bocelli.

L’intermezzo sinfonico dell’opera, collocato tra la ottava e la nona scena, è uno dei pezzi più popolari. Grazie al suo carattere orchestrale, interamente basato sull'uso degli archi, ha avuto molta fortuna anche al di fuori del repertorio operistico. In ambito cinematografico ha fatto da sfondo ad una delle più celebri scene della storia del cinema, quella nel film Il padrino - Parte III. È stato anche usato anche nei titoli di testa del film Toro scatenato di Martin Scorsese, come tema conduttore del film Il cavaliere di Lagardère di Philippe de Broca e nell’episodio "Strane allucinazioni" della popolare serie americana Ally McBeal[2] Il tema centrale è stato rielaborato per una canzone dance dal titolo Will be one dei Datura, è stato ripreso da Vasco Rossi nell’Intro dei live 2007 ed è presente nella canzone Mascagni di Andrea Bocelli.
