The first performance, under the title of The Rite of Springfield received a humorously warm reception. After Springfield House became no longer available for music courses, and because this quartet comprises somewhat smaller forces than another work with a similar title, it was presented as an entry to the Robert Hicks Memorial Competition under it`s present title.
