Children’s choirs very often are featured in an Orchestral Christmas Concert but sing with piano accompaniment. This is an orchestral version of ’The Grey Donkey’ to give them a chance of singing with an orchestra. The MP3 is with piano - but beautifully sung by the Bach Children’s Chorus (Toronto). Linda Beaupre - conductor; Lydia Adams - piano.
Two reviews of the piano version:
(1) Fantastic Christmas anthem! This is one of the most charming and beautiful Christmas anthems I have heard in a long time. The words are so heartfelt and the piece ’does its job’ and makes me cry when I hear it. The text is so poignant and tells the story from the donkey’s perspective. It even ties in Palm Sunday to this little grey donkey as well. It is a MUST do!
(2) The donkey was the gentle beast that carried Mary to Bethlehem. This sensitive original comments on the events of the Holy birth with care and awe. It combines lyrical unison vocal lines and a descriptive, arpeggiated piano accompaniment to fashion a work of sweetness and maturity. A gem!
