This work was written for guitarist Matt Gould who had already recorded my trio for violin, guitar, and mandolin which is available on my solo CD from Albany Records "Vientos". As the title of this present work indicates it is based on the begining singing (canto) melody which goes into transformation via development, as in a sonata form.
