This piece relates to the 3 kings (the maji) episode of the Christmas story. It is written for 3 equal solo voices (baritones) and piano, or could easily be performed by choir split into 3 parts. With soloists, it can be performed informally, semi-theatrically (in costume etc.) The three vocal parts take the roles of the three wise men (Melchior, Gaspar and Balthazzar) as they journey to visit the baby Jesus. The piano accompaniment suggests a rather uncomfortable camel ride through the Arabian desert.
