This combination of bright latin and swing feels within a straightahead hard bop style was conceived intuitively but analysis revealed a hidden harmonic game: the melody notes over the Ab7 chord resolve successively to the 13th, #11th and 9th, "calibrating" towards a gradual reduction in tension; hence the title.
