This piece - a saxophone quartet, soprano/alto/tenor/baritone (I couldn't find a way to express 'saxophone' on its own in the 'with this instrument' box) - is inspired by my continuing efforts to 'grow a thick skin' as a musician! Hence the 'bulletproof' part of the title (referring to the more assertive, alternately aggressive, moments in the piece).
The 'petals' part refers not only to the vulnerability expressed at times in the music, but to the fact that I was recently (at time of writing) participating in a band that played Sidney Bechet's 'Petite Fleur' (Little Flower).
