You are purchasing high quality sheet music PDF files suitable for printing or viewing on digital devices. There has been considerable interest in the full version of this piece, written for four-part choir and organ (score no. 12226). I have been asked for a simpler arrangement for use with a congregation and hope this version, in a lower key, will meet that need.
Writing a contemporary hymn of praise in the new millennium presents all sorts of difficulties. Many modern hymns seem to have overlooked the complexities of belief in their effort to present simple, easily digestible music and lyrics. On the other hand, many 19th century hymns appear increasingly distant if not irrelevant. At their very best, however, hymns can raise the spirits and send a powerful message of being part of an infinite community.
This piece attempts to reconcile a number of requirements - the melody had to be singable by an average choir and easily remembered by a congregation. The organ accompaniment is intentionally straightforward, even if it does occasionally wander into some foreign keys. I have tried to give the lyrics a directness and meaning that speaks not only to believers but also to those who might be seeking a faith they can live by.
