You are purchasing high quality sheet music PDF files suitable for printing or viewing on digital devices. This is a digital engraving of Italian composer Giovanni Bononcini's (1670-1747) Cantata da camera No. 7, first published in London, 1721, for two singers and continuo. In this version, the vocal lines are set in modern clefs (i.e., both are set in treble clef, rather than the old soprano and alto clefs); the score provides the incipit with the original clefs. As for the bass line, it is set precisely as in the original, with some minor amendments to the harmonic notation. The score only provides the figured bass line without its harmonic realization, in order to let the performer can fill it out in accordance with Baroque performance tradition.
This piece belongs to a greater publication of several Cantatas and vocal Duets by Bononcini. The one provided here is usually numbered as the Cantata (or 'Duet') No. 7, often referred to as Luci barbare spietate, the first verse of the lyrics of the first part. The Cantata consists of three movements:
I. Duetto. Con spirito: Luci barbare spietate
II. Recitativo: Così, Dorinda mia
III. Duetto. Allegro: Spero che in pace vivran quest'alme
The MP3 file provided for this score corresponds to the first Duet, from which the Cantata takes its title. The original published version of this score can be found in IMSLP Petrucci Music Library
