Leon Boellmann French composer and organist was born at Ensisheim, Alsace on the 25th of September 1862 and died in Paris on the 11th of October 1897 he was just 35 years old. His premature death, however, ended a composing career of considerable promise. In 1895 some two years before his death he composed what was to become his best known organ work namely the melodious Suite gothique with its beautiful inner movements of which this is one, and the wonderful Toccata finale. Among his orchestral works the elegant Variations symphoniques for cello and orchestra is exceptional, and the chamber works include a number of distinctive scores namely the Piano Quartet in F minor and the Piano Trio in G major.
