"I chose the title "Bergamasca" for my orchestral fantasy as a reminder of an old dancing song which originated in the region of Italian town Bergamo in the 16th century. The instrumental shape of Bergamasca had gradually spread out over Europe and it reached significant success especially in the 19th century. However, my intention was not to revive the historical form but to create a free, fanciful dancing picture. Bizarre mystique mingles with nostalgic cheerfulness; passionate flow is followed by lyrical-humorous natural idyll. The driving power of that all is a rhytmical element - the essence of dancing and music expression." Author
Autor
