You are purchasing high quality sheet music PDF files suitable for printing or viewing on digital devices."Baladi Funk" is a drum-line cadence that mixes the Egyptian Baladi and Turkish Tsifteteli of Classical Arabic Bellydancing with James Brown inspired Funk! It is an homage to the musical genius of the African Diaspora that has influenced all corners of the world.
In the Arabic tradition, rhythms are often learned through oral solmization, using the syllables dum, tek, and ka. Dum represents the low pitched bass sound of the center of the drum, while tek and ka represent the higher pitches sounds near the rim. I highly recommend teaching each section in this way so that performers understand the interplay between individual parts.
Techniques and Rudiments: rim-shot, backwards rim-shot, back-sticking, ruff, 5-stroke roll, 7-stroke roll, paradiddle, paradiddle-diddle, rim-click, crushed buzz (press) multi-tenor skanks and simple 2 drum sweeps, optional visuals
Bass Drums get the fun challenge of playing super syncopated lines like in the Funky Shuffle section: 1, 3e, a+,3a
This composition includes an optional traditional chest-tenor and cymbal parts to accommodate all styles of drum-line.
The bass drum and chest tenor double-stops invoke the HBCU drum-line style!
I highly encourage the gratuitous use of visuals, effects, and choreography in the performance of this composition!
