“Subdue us by Thy goodness” is the final chorale movement from Bach’s Cantata no.22. He wrote the cantata in 1732 as a test piece for appointment as Thomaskantor in Leipzig. This movement is full of vitality with a “moto perpetuo” figure and words reflecting Bach’s unquestioned faith. Originally scored for SATB chorus, oboe and strings it is here arranged for Soprano and Tenor, accompanied by Flute or Violin with Piano.
