While in junior high school I participated in a talent contest as a piano soloist with my own arrangement of Elvis Presley’s "Are You Lonesome Tonight" using some "Floyd Cramer" licks which were really in vogue then because of his giant hit "last Date". This arrangement pays homage to Floyd Cramer (using those same licks) and Elvis Presley (since he used this old Civil War song for one of his hits). No, I didn’t win but our dance band, the “Off-beats” did!
