When I was part of the Ft. Lewis, WA Army band, our command tasked me to arrange an Auld Lang Syne/Last Post based only upon a solo cornet part. I had no idea where the part came from until Geoff Kingston cried plagiarism. It turned out that (now retired) Colonel Duncan Beat, a British bandmaster, wrote the part. Mr. Kingston realized that I did not intentionally steal Col. Beat’s work, and since neither of us did this for profit, he suggested that I would prominently credit the Colonel in any future editions. My edition rests upon Col. Beat’s solid foundation.
