This piece is composed for trombone solo with recorder band accompaniment. Since the trombone sounds much louder than the recorders, I put it at the back of the audience in a concert hall to help to bring the balance. That's how the piece has got its name "Antiphony", a term used by Renaissance composers to describe the music sung by poly choruses in a big cathedral to produce a "surrounding sound" effect.
