Angola was granted independence by Portugal in November 1975. Since then,’’Angola Avante’’ has been the official national anthem of the republic. The melody was composed by Rui Alberto Vieira Dias Mingao, a former Secretary of State for Sport in Angola. The Portugese words were written by Manuel Rui Alves Monteiro, a member of the Angolan Writer’s Association.
