Andean Dance was composed by Carlos Cortes, a Chilean composer and member of Ancient Cultures. It mixes a contemporary style with the rhythmic excitement of Latin American folk music.
The meter shifts freely between 6/8 and 3/4 time producing unexpected accents making tapping your toes to the beat quite challenging at times until it becomes familiar.
Ancient Cultures recorded this piece on their album El Camino Real in 1993 using traditional folk instruments and won the 1994 Juno Award Best Global Recording Category. This arrangement attempts to bring the spirit of the original to the standard wind quintet.
