An arrangement of America the Beautiful for brass quintet and unison voices.

The lyrics by Katharine Lee Bates (1859-1929) were inspired by a trip to Pikes Peak in 1893. Two years later the first version (of several)of the poem was printed in a weekly publication, the Congregationalist, on July 4, 1895.

The music was composed by Samuel Augustus Ward (1847-1903) in 1882, nearly 10 years before the words were penned. It was not until the early 1900's that the words and music, as it is now commonly used, came together.
