This is a new vocal score for Alice, a musical I composed in 1999/2000. This new version has been prepared for a production by the Primary 7 year group at George Watson’s College. The songs are based on poems and songs found in the two ’Alice’ books by Lewis Carroll, plus there are one or two additional items for which I wrote lyrics. The music was written to fit the ’Dramascript’ adaptation of the ’Alice’ books by Bill Fyfe Hendrie. However, a number of directors have chosen to create their own adaptations of Carroll’s original and have incorporated the songs and incidental music as they have wished. In this new version I have added music for a Chess scene in the first act (as this is where I was told it would be though it ended up in the 2nd act), a curtain call and two appendices. As the story of ’Alice’ is not really linear the music could be performed in a variety of different orders according to the whim of the director. Some of the songs also work very well as 'stand alone' items for a school choir, e.g. Voice of the Lobster, The Lobster Quadrille.
