Mary’s Plea was written for a dear friend, a college pal. Initially meant for the Christmas eve celebration, it also works well for the final Sunday of Advent. The song can be performed in other settings as well including as an ensemble piece for a small, intimate women's group. The text reveals the events immediately leading up to the birth of our savior, Jesus, from the ’human’ Mary’s perspective. While recounting the events as we accept them, I have endeavored to imagine what the expecting mother may have been thinking and feeling as the birth drew near.
