The words of this Latin Christmas hymn were published by John Francis Wade (c.1711-1786) in his "Cantus Diversi pro Dominicis et Festis per annum" (1751). The translation "O come, all ye faithful" was the work of Frederick Oakeley (1802-1880). The tune was probably by John Francis Wade, and there are manuscript sources, probably in Wade’s hand, dating from around 1740.
This descant was used for the Agnus Dei of "Christmas Carol Mass no.2" by John Ross, which can be downloaded from this website.
