The Adagio from Schubert’s String Quintet in C major Op. 163, ranks amongst the finest pieces of music ever written and few people can fail to be moved by the emotional power that rises from sublime simplicity. The entire movement is quite long and the middle section is demanding of players. It is the opening section that is most recognisable and perhaps most appealing; it is this section that is presented here in this abridged version.
