This is a neat tune that swings in 5. While it is not demanding technically, the counting can be tricky because of the timing. Originally composed as a tune for a jazz combo (piano, drums, bass,) I orchestrated it for a high school percussion ensemble I taught several year ago.
When I was composing this piece, I was imagining what the "theme music" might be as a person new to the city goes walking around New York at Midnight. The "'Round Midnight" is a nod to Thelonious Monk.
