"A Spaniard in Mississippi" was written in early 2015 as an exercise in modal composition.
The work comprises of three modes:
I - Flamenco Mode
II - Phrygian Mode
III - Blues Mode
As you can tell from the title I’ve gone for a kind of Gershwin, "American in Paris" idea. Using these modes the piece tells the story of a young Spaniard who goes on an adventure to the birthplace of the Blues, Mississippi!
Breathing is challenging in places, so please don’t be afraid to, "make room" for breaths if you need to in the extended sections.
