In 4 brief movements, A Highland Suite is written with the sentiment of Holst's classic military band suites in mind, but with a hint of modernity. Mvt. 1 - Summer Danss - evokes the merriment of children & adults alike, frolicking in cool summer breezes in the meadows of Scotland's highlands. Mvt. 2 - Morning Myste - paints a damp, foggy Scottish bog as sunrise approaches. Mvt. 3 - Boar Hunte - clansmen and women all vie to catch the prize wild pig for the roast in this rhythmic episode. Mvt. 4 - My Bonnie Annie Laurie - An interpretation of the beloved Scottish melody builds with chorus and baritone voice solo, to a finale fantasy incorporating Annie Laurie & the original material of Mvt. 1.
