Is it possible, that George Frideric Handel, on his journey’s to Italy, picked up this song, somewhere near Napels, usually played by the sheperds on their flutes? Could it be, that he made some notes,and then later, back in England used this sweet melody for what would
become one of the most famous aria’s fr om his oratorio "The Messiah"?
