A Choral Menagerie pokes a little fun at every section of the SATB choir. It was written by a Bass, so they get a bit more air-time. It would ideally be performed to an audience of choristers who have a sense of humour (at a Choral Festival perhaps), but could be used to close a light choral program, or simply as a fun warm-up piece. The MP3 weighs in at a little over 8MB and could take a few moments to begin. My sincere thanks to Renee Wilson-Wicker and her Grayson High School Mixed Chorus from Loganville, Georgia, USA for their enthusiastic adoption of this piece, and for the opportunity to workshop it remotely. The group received a standing ovation after performing the piece at the Georgia Music Educators Association annual conference in Savannah, Georgia in January 2005. Thanks are also due for permission to upload their performance and to SoundAround Audio Recordings of Fayetteville, GA, for doing a great job on the recording. COMMENTS and REVIEWS are welcomed, either on this site or directly to my email address. On a sad note, Rob Hermens, an enthusiastic pioneer of A Choral Menagerie in The Netherlands, died in December 2001. The piece is now dedicated to his memory.
