A Canadian Folk Journey incorporates phrases of the Canadian National Anthem, O Canada, and folk songs from various regions of Canada, starting with "Land of the Silver Birch" (a song written by a Canadian First Nation poet), "The Maple Leaf Forever", (reminding us of the flag and the colours of Quebec and Ontario), and then our cross-country trip starts on the east coast with "Lots of Fish in Bonavist Harbour", "I’se the Bye that Builds the Boat", and "Farewell to Nova Scotia". "Vive La Canadienne" represents Quebec, "The Red River Valley" from Manitoba, "Bury Me Not on the Lone Prairie" from Saskatchewan and Alberta, "Far from Home" from British Columbia, and landing up on Canada’s north with the song "Klondijk!" from the Yukon.
This piece would be a great addition for any recorder group celebrating Canada’s 150th birthday in 2017.
The Great Bass part is optional, as it simply duplicates the Bass part, however, it is in the treble clef, perhaps making it more accessible for some players.
