This carol was written in 1983 for the Albury Singers. The words were translated by Percy Dearmer from a 16th century German text. The music begins quietly ("A boy was born in Bethlehem") and then builds up ("that all mankind he might set free") before a forte verse ("Then praise the word of God who came"). The final "Alleluya" brings the music back to the reflective opening mood.
