When I lived in Romania, I drove often from Bucharest to the Carpathians, passing a "Paralela 45" sign on the highway. It always struck me as a strange thing to mark, but it became cool to think about being closer to the pole than the equator (and vice-versa). The piece, for any sort of keyboard, is inspired by notions of geography and topography, mathematical grids and physical features. It has three movements now but I might just add more.
