Grieg originally provided an accompaniment to Mozart’s Piano Sonata in C, K545, writing for a second piano. I have kept everything on the one piano, using Mozart’s original as the primo and adding a secondo part below. This has posed certain challenges, in providing a worthwhile part for the extra player, whilst not getting in the way of the top part. I have played this with a student, and we didn’t come to blows, or really get in each other’s way!

I have kept Mozart’s part exactly as written, and the extra part hopefully complements this. It would be an effective concert piece for two students, especially where one has already learnt the solo piano version, or for teacher and student. The piece is often referred to as the 18-th Century Drawing Room Sonata (not by Mozart, of course!), and, as I have brought it somewhat more into the 21st century, I’ve updated the name accordingly.
