"Feinddezimierer" ("The Enemy Decimator") is an hommage to all action B-movies from the eighties, while being highly entertaining by itself. The highly ambitious project was realized by the three Henze-brothers who were searching for the right music and met me. The final result is nothing to be embarrassed of! About this piece:
The action picks up and some terrorists launch another nuclear threat on the USA in the vein of now hilarious 80's B-Movies. During the whole movie the directors paid hommage to many films, most prominently "The Matrix". I have even been asked to imitate the music in one place to some extent.
Even though the movie was supposed to be crappy, I found it very enjoyable to write music with more depth than you would expect from such a production. The score is based on some very simple building blocks: 1 theme for the good guy, 1 2-chord motif for the bad guys which is later extended into a theme, 1 ascending 4-bar ostinato (which is more and more syncopated as the movie progresses). Additionally you can find all these elements exposed in the first cue ("Enter the Cornfield") to give the listener a glimpse of what is to come. After that I tried to take the elements apart and work with them, starting with smaller ensembles ("Rocketlaunch") and working my way up to more complex pieces ("Briefing, Sniping, Sneaking").
