I trained at the Guidhall School of Music as a trombone player after being brought up playing in brass bands in Newcastle in the North East of England. I've composed and arranged for all sorts of combinations of voices and instruments, from harp and trumpet through to full symphony orchestra. I've written music for all sorts of people's weddings (including a piece for bagpipes, string ensemble, tenor drum, chamber organ, church choir and gospel choir for Rory Bremner's wedding) as well as more formal performances for the likes of Evelyn Glennie and the English Chamber Orchestra. Commissions for brass band pieces have included CD recordings, TV and radio broadcasts, special concert for such bands as the Black Dyke Mills Band, Parc & Dare Band and Cory Band. A lot of my work is for smaller chamber groups (such as string quartet, brass quintet, trombone quartet) but, to be honest, I love the challenge of being asked to write or arrange for the oddest of collection of instruments! I am currently trying to expand my catalogue of brass quintet and brass 10 piece arrangements.
