Michael Mills

My name is Michael Mills and I am a composer and founder of Tom's Creek Publishing. Below is a short bio about me and my experiences as a musician.

Michael Mills began taking piano lessons at the age of five, and after one year, went on to teach himself both piano and composition until beginning his undergraduate studies at Virginia Tech. Michael composes music that addresses topics related to the human experience by utilizing a personal blend of contemporary techniques and traditionally informed styles. Though he finds inspiration from a wide variety of sources, the impact of growing up in a small Appalachian town has helped to color his compositional voice in a unique and personal way. Michael has written music for a large array of instrumentations and mediums ranging from solo pieces to full orchestral works, as well as music for film, virtual reality, and more. His music has been performed across the Mid-Atlantic region, on public radio, and across Europe including performances in France, Spain, Croatia, Italy, and Greece. Michael was recently invited to attend the 2019 Thessaloniki International Film Festival due to his work scoring the short film “The Dinner” by Dimitris Argyriou, while attending the 2019 Fusion Film Scoring Workshop. He received his bachelor’s degree in Music Composition and Technology with a minor in Psychology from Virginia Tech in 2019 where he studied with Dr. Charles Nichols (composition), Dr. Eric Lyon (composition), and Dr. Richard Masters (piano).
