The composer and pianist Maris Lasmanis was born on January 15th, 1961 in Riga, Latvia. He graduated the Piano Department at the Jazeps Medins School of Music, the Jazeps Medins College of Music Piano Department, the Latvian State Conservatory Piano Department and the Composition Department, the class of Romualds Kalsons, as well as the Teaching and Psychology Department at the University of Latvia.
He was the Latvian State Conservatory/Latvian Academy of Music accompanist and teacher of improvisation, the director of SIA LAREK, advertising agency, the accompanist and teacher at the Riga 100th Secondary School. He was the musical director of the popular music ensembles Intermeco and Mantojums (Herritage). He is an active member of the Latvian Composers Union.
He was victorious in the Riga Dome Cathedral organised competition for best original music Ave Maria for boys soprano voice.
In Latvia Maris Lasmanis is recognized as author of songs for children and mens choir. Among the largest compositions are childrens ballet The Snowwhite and 7 dwarfs (premierred in 2009) and childrens opera The Haughty Grasshopper (premierred in 2007). He is known as author of theatre and chamber music, too.
Maris Lasmanis music has been performed in Riga and many other cities of Latvia, as well as in Estonia, Lithuania, Ukraine, Russia, France, Germany, Sweden, the United States, and Trinidad and Tobago.
