I have a PhD in chemistry and make a living in the biotech field. However, music is a big part of my life. I taught myself how to play the piano at age 12, and was actively composing music and participating in the high school drama clubs and choral groups. In college, I took piano lessons as well as courses in composition and orchestration. I have been active as an accompanist for a number of church choirs and continue to compose.
My favorite composers are Liszt, Tchaikovsky, Rachmaninoff, Prokofieff, Ravel, and Bartok. With these influences my writing tends to be romantic but with a bite or edge, and most of it is for piano. My compositions generally fall into two categories: compositions that make use of some techniques of 20th century music, and purely romantic music for a wider audience.
