Waves is an original composition for saxophone quartet (SATB) that evokes the romance and drama of life on the high seas. Inspired by sea shanties, this is a rollicking ride that starts with a melodic, slow section depicting the titular waves at their most sedate - but beware! - this gentle opening gives way to the true nature of the sea, and the pace soon picks up. Hopefully all players will arrive safe and sound at the other end, but the sea can be a harsh mistress …
