Ignace Pleyel (1757-1831) was a French composer. He became Joseph Haydn’s pupil and composed 70 sitring quartets etc. His name is famous as a founder of Pleyel et Cie, a French piano manufacturing company. He also established a music notes publisher, Maison Pleyel, which published works by Joseph Haydn, Ludwig van Beethoven, Johann Hummel, etc. Six string quartes Op.2, published in 1784, was dedicated to Haydn. Among them, No. 3 in G minor is particularly beautiful and emotional work. It is not so popular, however, there is a brilliant performance by Enso Quartet (http://www.ensoquartet.com/ ). It’s notable that the 1st violin part has no very high tone. Third positon is enough for playing.
