His Violin Sonata in g-minor is very popular, which corresponds to 12 Sonatas for Violin and Continuo, Book 1: No. 11, in 1720. Other pieces in the Book are also attractive as can be listened to the recent recording by Callipygian Players. This No. 2 consists of the following movements: I. Largo, II. Allegro, III. Sarabande: Largo, IV. Rondeau gavotte: Vivace, V. Giga: Allegro. Someone may feel that the five movement sounds like Joseph Bodin de Boismortier’s work, who was a French composer in the same period (1689-1755). It might be related to the theory that Eccles was in France and he borrowed movements from the others for the Book. Anyway, players will enjoy the music written in the score.
