I am a self taught musician who was born in 1942 into Salvation Army background. In my teens I was appointed the bandleader of the junior band in Banbury, Oxfordshire but soon became the Bandmaster of the senior band, a position I held for a number of years. In 1965 I was awarded a diploma for the successful completion of a Band Training Course. In 1971 I change my career and joined the police force where within 5 years became the Musical Director of the Thames Valley Police Band. In the early 1980's I was asked to conduct the Hook Norton Brass Band, I did this with the intention of raising the standard of playing of this local band. The band performed for the first time at the Oxfordshire & District Band Association contest, winning 1st place for the first time in it's 100 years. I left Hook Norton Band in the 1990's and returned to playing. Joining Brackley & District, first on Eb Bass then onto Bass Trombone. After a number of years away from both playing and conducting I returned to banding again by accepting the offer to conduct Hook Norton again. I have retired now from playing and I spend more of my time composing, mainly for brass band and have a number of pieces published by MMI Music and Pennine Music
